La Guanesteña

This very pretty creole danza is a polka from Catacamas in the department of Olancho, documented relatively recently by Everth Zelaya. It is interesting to note the influence of the European polka (dance of Germanic origin and popularized during the nineteenth century the great Viennese composer Johann Strauss, father, son and brothers) in many of the folkloric dances of Honduras. The polka was very much danced as one of the favorite dances of the high society of most Hispanic American countries.
